My first winter hike- Mt. Sniktau 13,285 ft

March 04, 2016

It was my first winter hike. We started from Loveland pass at about 5:00AM and were at the summit at 8:30AM. It was a beautiful day with strong winds. The snow pack was not very soft but not very hard either. It was perfect to try crampons on which we did. I also tried some glissade and practiced self arrest.

Thanks to Dr. Turk for planning this trip and letting me come along.

Sunrise that we saw while ascending. Torrey's peak and Gray's are visible in the background.
